Full Description

The Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to approximately 1,500 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities each year. The Foundation seeks students who have outstanding academic records and who are socially and politically engaged, sharing the foundation's values of ecology, sustainability, democracy, and human rights.

Master’s: €934 per month plus various individual allowances

Eligibility Criteria

✓
Admitted to a state or state-recognized university in Germany
✓
Proof of proficiency in German (at least B2 Level is required even if the course is in English)
✓
Strong commitment to the foundation's green and democratic values
✓
Excellent academic performance

Two references (one academic, one focusing on social commitment)

Application Process

  1. Check the foundation’s portal to see if the current application round accepts international applicants (typically opens in spring and autumn)
  2. Submit the online application with all documentation in German
  3. Shortlisted candidates attend a selection workshop/interview (conducted in German)

Important Information

•A B2 level of German language proficiency is absolutely mandatory for international applicants before applying.
