Full Description

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program was created to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. It is open to both Canadian and international students who demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, engineering, or health.

Eligibility Criteria

✓
Nominated by only one Canadian university with a Vanier CGS quota
✓
Seeking a doctoral degree (or combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD)
✓
Have completed no more than 20 months of doctoral studies as of May 1 of the application year
✓
Have achieved a first-class average in the last two years of full-time study

Application Process

  1. Students must be nominated by the Canadian university where they plan to study
  2. Applicants coordinate with the university for internal deadlines
  3. The university forwards final nominations to the Vanier CGS program (usually early November)
  4. Results are announced in the spring of the following year
